Chapter 18

When my alarm buzzed the next morning, I shut it off and stretched, enjoying all the room I had. My eyes shot open. Had Ty not returned last night? I rolled over to see him lying on a blanket on the floor with his sleepy eyes only half open and a big smile on his lips.

“Morning, Princess,” he said.

I moaned and rolled over, but not before seeing Ty pull himself to his feet and sit beside me in bed. This morning, he only wore a pair of Geoff’s sweatpants. His chest was bare, and I was happy he hadn’t crawled in bed with me last night. My hands might have had a mind of their own.

“Try your magic now,” he encouraged, taking my medallion off my desk and placing it in my hand.

“I am, and you’re still here.”

He chuckled and gave my shoulder a shake. “Come on. Try something.”

I looked over to the flower thriving in the water and focused on the metal in my hand, wishing for one blossom to wilt and die and another to flourish.

Nothing happened.

I scooted to the foot of my bed and focused on the flowers again, taking my time to gather my magic and urge it to the plants.

Still nothing.

I shook my head. “It’s gone.”

Ty moved down the bed and scooted next to me. His fingers touched the stone on the leather bracelet I wore. “Where did you get that?”

“It doesn’t matter.”

He grabbed my wrist, twisting the stone in its leather mount. “Then tell me when you got it? Did it coincide with your loss of powers?”

“Saturday.” My stomach swirled. It did coincide with the troubles I was having.

“From Liam?” Ty asked.

I laughed. “You don’t like him, do you?”

Ty dropped my hand. “It’s just a bit coincidental, don’t you think?”

Was Ty insinuating Liam was blocking my magic? “My magic barely even worked before I met Liam. You’re just jealous.”

“Jealous?” he laughed and raised an eyebrow. “Of that bumbling fool? If I wanted you, I could have you.”

“Really? Cause I’m starting to think you do want me, and you’re not getting very close to the prize.”

I didn’t know what I expected from him, but throwing on the rest of his clothes and heading out the door wasn’t it. As he walked down the hallway, he called over his shoulder. “And even if I did want you, it means nothing. I’m going home as soon as possible!”

“Good riddance!” I locked the door behind him, but my heart wasn’t behind my words.

I picked up the blanket he had slept on and folded it, threw Geoff’s clothes back into the bag, and just like that, all signs of Ty were gone. There was so much more I had to learn from him about my magic...and I wanted to hear about his world. Were there magic schools? What was it like living in a place with other people who wore tunics?

Why hadn’t I asked him these questions when he was here?

Instead, I ogled at his body and focused on myself.
